Frederic William Burton: For the Love of Art gives an opportunity to relook at the work of Frederic William Burton (1816-1900) and to reflect on his many achievements as a Victorian watercolour artist. Burton is probably most famous for his highly finished watercolour, ‘Hellelil and Hildebrand, the Meeting on the Turret Stairs’ (1864). This painting features in the exhibition along with over 70 more of his paintings. The exhibition also showcases works by some of his contemporaries of the time such as John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rosetti and looks at Burton’s tenure as director of the National Gallery, London. It runs until the 14 January 2018.
New Graphic were commissioned to design the identity, interpretation graphics, exhibition signage, marketing and educational materials for the exhibition. We also produced a number of animations which were projected on buildings around Dublin. The animation features an animated version of Meeting on the Turret Stair where the two figures move into an embrace.
