Heritage Ireland, manage and maintain Ireland’s most important historic buildings and sites for the OPW. These range from archaeological monuments to historic houses and include the plants, trees, art, artefacts, furniture and other folklife relics that give them their unique life and colour.
We worked closely with the Heritage Ireland team from day one — collaboration was a key part of the process. Workshops, stakeholder meetings, heritage site visits, competitive benchmarking and usability testing were crucial parts of the research process. It was important that the new site was imagery focused to showcase the range of stunning sites in the OPW’s care. Ease of exploration is also another key feature of the new site. Users can quickly find information about various sites. Particular attention was paid to accessibility on the new site — visitors with disabilities can browse through the various locations and see if particular sites are accessible to them.
